Parks & People is pleased to announce finalized plans to begin the playground transformation at Liberty Elementary School! We will break ground for this long awaited project at the end of July!
Special shout out to Baltimore Community Foundation (BCF) for choosing @Liberty as one of their selected community schools. At Liberty, the past met the present when Shelley Goldseker read that her beloved alma mater was chosen as a beneficiary. Shelley and her fellow aluma Myrna Cardin visited their old school and noted the “powerhouse principal, amazing teachers, and support groups…volunteers and grandparents…[and] testament[s] to the community and its leadership.”
Administrators said they needed a new playground to replace the crumbling 25-year-old one. Parks & People was brought in to help manage and direct the renovation.
The alumni have met their initial goal, but continue to fundraise for benches, ballfields and other green space and assets for the entire community!
Our engagement included the amazing children of LES who chose the colors and equipment!
This new playground will host:
Inclusive design for children with disabilities.
Two distinguished areas for 2-5 year olds and 6-12 year olds.
Musical instrument play equipment.
Outdoor classroom, complete with chalkboard and benches for the kids
Fresh landscaping scheduled for the fall
Kids returning in September will be delighted to play on the playground they had a hand in designing!
Thank you to Hord Coplan Mach for the beautiful concept design.
Special thanks to Baltimore City Public Schools, Laurence Campbell of Wayland Baptist Community Development Corp, and Forest Park Neighborhood Association.
After successful rounds of visioning, community engagement and calling on our partners, we have plans to take this decades old playground into a brand new state-of-the-art modern space.
Stay tuned for updates on this incredible transformation and ribbon cutting!
