Moravia Park Elementary School Reading Garden Ribbon Cutting

Moravia Park Elementary School Reading Garden Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

On September 25th, 2024 Parks & People celebrated the revitalization of the courtyard and exterior spaces at Moravia Elementary School in Baltimore, Maryland. Made possible by the generous support of The Harriet and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation, this project was carried out in two phases.

The first phase, completed in summer 2023, involved weeding, tree trimming, removing planters, repairing exterior lighting, sanding and staining benches, and installing a mural. The second phase, finished in fall 2024, focused on replanting flower beds and the rain garden, a tool shed, and a galvanized planter, replacing the hose, and placing 2-3 large boulders for seating and aesthetic enhancements.

These improvements have transformed the space into an outdoor teaching lab, providing opportunities for active student engagement, a quiet area for reading or emotional decompression, and a versatile environment that promotes both learning and well-being.
